Reelin' and SVT Celebrate Hendrix DVD Gold Certification

Reelin' In The Years Productions LLC and its Swedish television client SVT recently celebrated over 50,000 US sales of the classic Jimi Hendrix video, "Experience." RITY President David Peck traveled to Stockholm to present SVT with an RIAA-certified gold DVD award.
"We're honored to be working with our friends at SVT on the first in what will be a series of exciting musical releases from SVT's unique library," said Peck.
The long out-of-print film debuted at Number 7 on Billboard's Top Music Video chart and has been certified "gold." It is now approaching "platinum" status, representing 100,000 units sold worldwide. In addition to the original 1968 documentary, the video features never-before-released bonus material from the vaults of Reelin' In The Years Productions. This footage was originally filmed for SVT, whose vast musical library Reelin' In The Years exclusively represents. These truly special Jimi Hendrix performances include a live-in-studio rendition of "The Wind Cries Mary" and "Purple Haze," filmed a few weeks before the late musician's famed Monterey International Pop Festival appearance in June 1967. Also featured are a previously unaired 1969 live performance of Jimi's ten-minute-plus blues masterpiece "Red House" and Cream's "Sunshine Of Your Love."
The Hendrix reissue marks the first in an upcoming series of video releases produced by Reelin' In The Years Productions in partnership with the family-run Experience Hendrix organization. The next videos will feature vintage blues material and are scheduled for mid-2002 release.
In addition to its association with Experience Hendrix, Reelin' In The Years Productions will also be making other titles available from its archive of over 15,000 performances. Peck hints that many surprises are in store. "This material is unique-- much of it has never been seen by the general public," explains Peck. "Our vintage performances represent over 50 years of music. Some were filmed but never shown, others aired only once in single countries many years ago. We're now working on the necessary clearances to allow the public to view these treasures."
