Thanks to a small TV studio in Germany that filmed The American Folk Blues Festival for several years in the early ‘60s, we now have a goldmine of previously unseen footage of the ultimate bluesmasters: Lonnie Johnson, Earl Hooker, Lightnin’ Hopkins, John Lee Hooker, Howlin’ Wolf, and many more. Up till now, moving pictures of these blues greats have been rarer than a silver nickel on the plantation. Blues fans, especially younger less enlightened ones, should consider these Eddie Kramer-mastered tracks essential listening.
